Kara & Collin Walding discuss how their careers are driven on helping & healing individuals and what its like to not just be partners in life, but business as well! A true power couple in Dallas - Fort Worth Texas💼☕️
Q1: What inspired you to choose your current career?
A1: Growing up with sports constantly in my life, I always thought my career would involve helping other athletes perform at their best. But in chiropractic school, I was introduced to the incredible power of the nervous system and the body’s ability to heal itself. I was especially amazed by the profound impact chiropractic care can have on a pregnant mom’s well-being throughout her pregnancy and then on the baby she brings into the world. Seeing how helping a struggling child can positively affect not just the child but the entire family was a turning point for me. That realization shifted my passion toward pediatric and prenatal care, and I knew that’s who I wanted to help.
Q2: What do you enjoy most about your day-to-day work?
A2: What I love most is seeing the positive impact chiropractic care can have on families, especially little ones. It’s amazing to see a baby latch better after struggling to feed well, or a pregnant mom experience relief from discomfort and smooth and easy birth. Every day is different, and I get to witness firsthand the progress my patients make, which is incredibly fulfilling.
Q3: How does your career contribute to your personal growth?
A3: Owning a practice with my husband and starting it just two months after graduating from chiropractic school has been a huge growth experience. We dove right in, which meant we were either going to sink or swim, and along the way, you really learn what you’re capable of. It’s encouraged me to become more confident in my decisions and to trust my instincts, both as a chiropractor and a business owner. It’s also pushed me to step out of my comfort zone, and every day brings new challenges and opportunities for growth.
Q4: What do you find most rewarding about your career?
A4: The most rewarding part is being able to empower parents with knowledge and care that truly makes a difference in their lives. Whether it's a baby sleeping through the night for the first time or a mom feeling and moving more comfortably during pregnancy, those moments of relief and joy are what make being a chiropractor so meaningful.
Q5: How do you maintain work-life balance in your career?
A5: Maintaining balance is definitely a challenge, especially when running a business with your spouse. It is something we are still trying to perfect. We try to set clear boundaries around our time, dedicating certain hours to work and others to family or personal time. We make it a priority to schedule date nights and plan trips to ensure we’re staying connected outside of the business. It's all about being intentional with our time and making space for both work and our relationship.
Q6: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
A6: My biggest piece of advice is to find a support team from the start! Building a practice takes time, and you’ll face challenges along the way, but having people in your corner who can offer guidance and advice because they’ve already been through it is invaluable. Surround yourself with a supportive community, that will pick you up when things dont go as planned. I think you learn more from your failures than your successes, so don’t view setbacks as a bad thing—they’re just opportunities to grow.
